Waking at the gym, I got an idea about thinking that I wanna describe here. I didn’t develop the idea while I was walking; it became boring pretty fast, but, maybe, it’s because I didn’t have an appropriate mood.
So the idea was that we can improve our thinking by going through two different ways. The first way is to use grammar rules and put some new words described actions, concepts, etc. into grammatically correct structures. For example, as it was today, I tried to use a new structure which I learned from Murphy’s book. It was the structure “so that.” I was going in the street and thinking about how I can implement the structure to describe my personal experience so that this would make sense. And then I realized that the vast majority of people can’t develop their thoughts in a new language exactly because of that. They use grammatical structures to convey their experience, and since they can’t connect many ideas or stories about themselves applying this method, they soon become bored and quit thinking at all.
Fortunately, we have another way to look at the issue. That’s actually what I’ve been working on during last year, let’s say. It may look silly at the beginning, but if you proceed a little bit further, you’ll see lots of doubtless advantages. So the way is to think without worrying about grammar at all. Yes, it’s not perfect. Yes, it seems foolish for others. Yes, it’s weird when you write and talk in a way that almost no one can understand you. But so what? You’ll understand yourself, and it’s more than enough to begin with. Don’t think about others! Your thinking will be improved, and then you’ll find ways to make it comprehensible for someone else. But till you’re able to think several hours a day without difficulty—you have to worry only about your thinking and not grammar.
